I liked it then... but now not so much

The original movies still exist, and are terrific.
The Clone Wars series is excellent.
The new Rebels series has gotten quite good.
The new movie was tons of fun.
There’s way too much good Star Wars stuff out there to waste time being bitter about the prequels.

I was a film curmudgeon already when that came out. I missed it the theater and when the school got it for movie night I was unimpressed. I found it pretty trite and boring much to the disappointment of my friends in the residence hall. I admit the jet scenes would probably be cool on big 70mm screen but otherwise meh.

They had some pretty good writers for the early shows.
David Gerrold, Larry Niven, Norman Spinrad, Ben Bova but by season 3 it was studio writers.

"28 seconds later James, the newest intern hears a projectile barely graze his head. James saw it bounce into some the scrub, and after scrabbling emerged with a bruised, egg shaped piece of wood.

He never told anyone about the alien egg he found that night, so close to beaning him unconscious. After aggressive nouristment, the wooded egg cast aside from the heavans started to… Change"

I loved it back when I was terrified [the later Patrick Troughton era], and continued through Jon Pertwee. But the start of adolescent cynicism coincided with this - <img src="//cdck-file-uploads-global.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/boingboing/original/3X/f/d/fd85280c0d9d5153d07d5eb217d431f1386854c6.jpg" width=“300” height=“301”

- and the horrid realisation began to dawn that maybe this was a kid’s programme. I’ve never really got over that in later life, and I have tried.

ahh, well i didn’t see till the mid 80s in high school via the pbs station and Tom Baker… they were dumb but I loved them. ahh so many monday mornings sleeping in class as it was on sunday night starting at 10:30pm and they would show the whole story not just the 30 minute episode.

I will check those out!

I didn’t like the new movie.

Force Awakens has fundamental issues. But It’s certainly better than the prequels, and that’s really all I personally was hoping for.

I absolutely loathed Spam as a kid and laughed at its existence until not long ago, when I found how tasty it can be fried up and either eaten as a sandwich or as Spam musubi. And if you can find smoked Spam or chorizo Spam, that stuff’s pretty good. Hugely better than the way my mom cooked it: sliced into a casserole dish filled with orange juice and baked. hurf

Yeah. With raisins. I have no idea. I think it was something she discovered in a church cookbook.

That kid’s expression was pretty much identical to mine.
