I think the magnetic ones work a little better by finding the nails the drywall is hammered into. I have an electronic one and it’s not as reliable as the magnetic version.

The joke around my house has been, the stud finder can’t locate wall studs until its operated by someone less hot than whoever is making the joke. It keeps pointing to the operator otherwise.
