Madam Mrs. The Ratel: “Why would you name someone Dick Finger? Oh, never mind.”
Looking back down to Tucson from the trail head.

You can see the “finger” in the middle left.
The path had brush, small trees, even Ocotillo, hacked down for about 10-20 feet on one side of it, with the cuttings piled up on the other side of the path. We assume this was some kind of fire break.

Why is that in English?
There are around 101 825 people in Helsinki that don’t speak Finnish, Swedish or Sámi as their first language.
And English is the lingua franca…wild.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love English (native speaker). It’s a language with a rich, convoluted history which has given it probably the richest, most expressive vocabulary in the world. If you grow up speaking it, it can be exciting and surprising for your whole life.
But it has to be one of the most miserable languages to learn as a second language, certainly if it’s not something you enjoy doing generally. Written French would certainly be better, although the disparity between what is written and how it is said it almost worse than English.
I was told once that in the EU all business contracts are written up in English, rather than French (which would be the next likely candidate) exactly because French is too precise in meaning, and then the lawyers would have nothing to work with.
I assume you didn’t go to the ER or need the fire department?
