Perhaps more to the point, plenty of conservatives are fine with large numbers of Black and Latino people dying… Although of course rural white people are also susceptible to the virus, the groups that are taking the heaviest hit are poor minorities. The not very subtle hints of white nationalism at some of the “liberation” protests is a bit of a clue.
I do not doubt that in the future historians will plot the impact of this pandemic in the US and see a strong correlation between poor racialized neighbourhoods and mortality.
