ETA: I am not, however the least bit surprised that it came from the 4chan cesspool of MRAs and “Alpha males” who most assuredly resemble the meme more than they realize.

Me neither, and I have to say the linked documentation of the origins and lineage of it is surprisingly detailed and complete. Of course it started on a chan, like everything even vaguely horrible does.

Thought experiment: If conservatives are threatening your well-being and life directly with the laws they pass, are you legally allowed to stand your ground and defend yourself via the 2nd amendment?
