Funnily enough, my husband’s band once played a gig with her (I can’t remember if it was that band or not). Unfortunately, it wasn’t a big turn out, but she did a great job with her set, and she was quite nice.

Here, too, at least the last time they came through town. I don’t know about back in the mid-90s, though.

I have two stories sort of like that… first, was seeing Jarboe (post-Swans), and the sound sucked, and she threatened to end the show if the sound guy didn’t get his shit together…

Second, saw Pigface, with Chris Connelly (one of his last national tours, I believe), and he came out right before Pigface came on, to do a couple of songs. For some reason, most of the audience didn’t know who he was (I did, he’s still one of my favorite singers), and weren’t to happy to see a dude with an acoustic guitar… they were kind of groaning and jeering a bit. He began to play July, but like 2 notes into the song, the power goes out on the mics, so he sort of stands there, strumming for a minute, finally just shrugs and just belts that shit out. Needless to say, by the end of it, the whole crowd was into it.

Right before I left for college, there was a big outdoor concert with The Church, Peter Murphy, and Tom Verlaine. It was something like $20 per carload, so we went in 2 cars then all piled into one when we got closer. I was really there to see Tom Verlaine, who was up there all by his lonesome with an acoustic guitar, and completely inaudible over the crowd din.

yeah, Connelly is a great singer. I love his stuff. If I ever get to Chicago, I’m going to try and time it with one of his shows.

Oh that’s so cool! Yeah Gitane and The Crystelles were incredible, stadium level professional to a crowd of thirty crammed into a tiny punk house basement. She was super humble and not at all a rock star. Which of course made her even more of a rock star
