Mexico actually has really strict gun control laws. Only problem is that guns practically grow on trees in the country next door. US politicians like to harp about the shit the cartels send north, but they don’t talk so much about the shit America sends south.
IIRC the Zetas smuggled semi-automatic rifles from the US and converted them to full automatic in their own workshop. They found this to be the most economical way of obtaining assault rifles.
