I remember the ads for these! I could have sworn they used the real CCR song Down on the Corner for their ads, not just a cover of it.
I remember those ads too! Never occurred to me until now that the jingle was a parody of “Down on the Corner”.
Things subsequently moved into the digital age with HitClips:
Just in case, here’s the link to the Pocket Rockers: The Fisher-Price Cassette for Kids Internet Archive collection: https://archive.org/details/pocketrockers
I don’t remember those but I did fall for the mini CD player and mini CDRs.
I think I was the only one.
In one of my boxes of useless things I have a Ramones cassingle bought new in a moment of idiocy.
I did two releases on mini-cdr, they were great!
oh wow, I remember these commercials but I was “too cool” for these (listening to Motley Crue and Metallica… yeah. We’ll go with …ahem… “cool”).
I never knew that they weren’t releasing real singles, but covers, in some cases! Listening to those Bangles songs now, I’m a little impressed at how hard they tried and how close they came. But 1986 me would have been aghast that it wasn’t the real thing.
I don’t think I realized they were covers either. I kinda want to hear what a Fat Boys cover sounds like.
Basically this is repackaging Kidz Bop.
