Yes, unfortunately. If you just look at him and listen to his tone, Pence is calm, confident, authoritative and very good at faux resigned indignation. Very presidential seeming. If you read the transcripts, on the other hand, Pence lies through his teeth. He doesn’t have the facts on his side and he’s dodging left and right. But if you go by gut impressions, he’s very convincing as long as you ignore the facts.
ETA: Pence is also very successful in tone and appearance at coming off as sincere and trustworthy, in spite of the fact that he is constantly lying outright to protect Trump and Trump’s policies. It’s amazing how little it takes for a seemingly devout religious person to become an outright liar. And unlike Trump, I bet Pence knows he’s lying through his teeth, hence the reason why he tried to pivot on so many of Kane’s points about Trump. I wonder how Pence justifies suborning his morals just to become vice president. Does he think to himself it’s ok if it’s for the greater good? Or has Pence always been a bald-faced liar?
