It is unclear how JK Rowling's outspoken anti-trans politics will affect video game sales

(No problem with color blind casting, but I’m positive this never occurred to her before that)

I could swear way back in the day she gave an interview and stated she left her description vague because Hermione was always meant to be sort of a Mary sue that Rowling saw a lot of herself in. Made sense. Her only flaws are guys not finding her pretty enough and being too smart…

That was great, probably better than the Harry Potter game.

Like, I can get people who are huge Harry Potter fans and don’t pay attention to Rowling’s bullshit playing the game, and I can get the assholes who just want to hurt LGBT and Jewish people. But it’s the people who know better and still want to play the game and will tie themselves in knots to do it and even argue with trans people online about why it’s OK if they do it because they’re still good at heart. Even if Hogwarts Legacy was a great game there are thousands of other great games out there, you can just play something else!

I think you’re right and she did, but for Rowling the past isn’t a foreign country where they do things differently*, it’s the room next door to wherever she happens to be and she feels free to go in there and straighten up whenever she likes.

It says a lot about the way she sees herself that her characterization of Hermione is so thoroughly unsympathetic through the first three or four books. Petunia Dursley is probably a more accurate avatar for Rowling.

I really can’t, seeing as she’s so blatantly cruel.

It’s really easy to ignore oppression if you’re not the target.

It’s time cis people learned that being nice to our oppressors got us into this mess.

Forget Trans Pride, it’s time for Trans Wrath!

I mean more people who aren’t aware of her shit than the ones who turn a blind eye. There are a lot of people who just consume media and pay no attention to the events surrounding it.

How can there be any fans of her work that don’t know she’s been a transphobic asshole for years at this point?

Are you happy to let them blindly continue on that path, because you seem aware of it but not overly keen to help out, so thanks for fucking nothing, I guess.

But … Zeppelins!!

There are millions of Harry Potter fans, the vast majority of whom don’t follow her on Twitter and probably don’t read LGBT news, if they read or watch any news at all. My brother-in-law’s partner is probably the biggest Harry Potter fan I know and I’d be genuinely surprised if she knew about it at all.

She’s on the BBC and in national newspapers. She does interviews, gets airtime on radio and her followers and fans are international. Quit making excuses for assholes who want me dead.

I note you don’t say you’ll be informing that family member so, once again, thanks for fucking nothing.

I’m just going to drop it here and say I’m sorry for offending you. it wasn’t my intent and I don’t want to end up in a fight over this.

They are really coming out of the woodwork on this. It really is an excellent example of how supporting this game empowers bigots and endangers trans people. A great article to send to anyone that is unaware or saying it’s not a big deal.

Content warning for transphobic comments Not on the part of the writer of the article, who is mocking them and supporting trans persons

I’m glad that I told Steam that I wasn’t interested months ago.

I have noticed that some supportive communities on Reddit are banning all discussion of the Wizard Game because of the TERs harrasing people who won’t lick Petunia’s boots. This is turning into a bigger shitshow than usual.

Wired’s review of the game is very well-done:
