IIRC there was never an official statement as to what the hell he was talking about, so you may be right.
I would have had no idea of this reference had I not just read the story a couple of weeks ago. And considering how that story ends, it might be perfectly horribly apt.

Not something I wanted to know. But then the one that truly gave me nightmares was the glass rod up the penis followed by liberal hammering. William Shirer, if you want a reference. Nazis were really not nice people.
