The interesting thing is, I’m willing to bet money that younger Gundam fans in Japan are probably bigger fans of the Gundam Build Fighters iteration of the series. Which is basically a tournament style shounen anime built around the building of Gunpla models that are then used to fight on a holographic battlefield.

I agree, it’s as genius as it is blatant. I don’t care for it myself, but it’s been well received by other Gundam fans so it’s doing its job!
