That’s not why Joe Rogan is still a thing. Would you prefer the site not bring to our attention more instances of egregious bigotry on the part of a personality who still enjoys the reach of a popular mainstream platform like Spotify? Or would you rather stay uninformed about it and pretend it isn’t happening?*
[* Because this story isn’t yet being prominently reported on corporate media outlets.]
Baddiel has admitted how wrong it was and apologised numerous times though admittedly it took him a long time to apologise face to face to Lee, which is in the TV version of Jews Don’t Count. This argument usually comes up every time he addresses antisemitism and I get it but it also doesn’t invalidate his thoughts on the subject.
It’s complicated though and I recommend reading the book or watching the TV show.
It seems to me that he is saying it is about -people- liking money, and that Jewish people are people, and that people are getting their gross-generalizations crossed with their racist-gross-generalizations. Some sort of false equivalence fallacy.
But I don’t know much about the guy, he easily could be a straight up racist. Guess if I can stomach it, I’ll have to watch more of the clip for context.
This is a straight up anti-semitic statement. It’s one of the oldest anti-semitic tropes, in fact. It’s pretty unmistakable.
Making a broad statement about an entire group of people who have historically suffered oppression and genocide (and using the very same tropes that helped to justify that genocide) is indeed a bigoted statement to make.
David Baddiel is popular with the auth-right, which is why he gets so much coverage. There are better, less problematic, people speaking out against antisemitism out there.
Liking money is only a punchline of it is about Jews or Chinese.
Reverse the joke. Italians are into money like Jews are into pizza.
It is just as true but now it doesn’t feel like a joke.
Now how many Italians have faced genocide because of their association with either pizza or money?
How many Jews have though… A lot right? There are those who deny the Holocaust was real but without buying into that big lie it’s safe to say one of these stereotypes is not like the other.
“Boy, those Black people sure do like their fried chicken and watermelon. WHAT? How is that racist? I’m just saying everyone loves fried chicken and watermelon! You people are just too sensitive.”
PS: Maybe just stop the racist podcasting? Perhaps you gave up on past endeavours too soon? There must be bugs that need eating somewhere? Or sweaty rough hug contests in dire need of commentary? Is it possible that bullying Andy Dick on tv was your true calling?
I dunno… just askin’ questions. Sure seems like the only positive about the podcasting is that you remain seated cuz absolutely nobody wants you to do standup again.
