Of course he’s a business- someone- who I won’t quote- never steal a man’s gig - stated he makes 80k a month from it.
And gracchus yet again has to escape all the arguments to focus on a tiny little word I said of him he doesn’t like. Remember guys, gracchus thinks his judgment about JP’s lecture style surpasses that of Harvard and the University of Toronto. Constant reminders are necessary.
@KathyPartdeux – Patreon isn’t a business.
“Patreon (/ˈpeɪtriɒn/) is a membership platform that provides business tools for creators to run a subscription content service, as well as ways for artists to build relationships and provide exclusive experiences to their subscribers, or “patrons.”[2]”
It helps you run your business
Ugh, yeah, that’s called crowdfunding.
It’s an outrageous insult to Jordaddy to make the assumption that he hasn’t yet created a corporate entity to take in all that money he’s been making lately and that he doesn’t recognise the marketing power of his personal brand. He may not be doing this for the money, but your underestimation of his business acumen might make his other followers (especially the “classic liberals” [sic]) cry.
Yes, clearly I was disparaging his lecture style when I said above:
I’d agree [he] has a superficially compelling lecture and writing style
Exactly what my words meant?
Elizabeth Warren is a capitalist. Is that clearer?
I agree, JP’s ability to make money is pretty enormous. Not as good as Elizabeth Warren’s though, much less Obama …
@wait_really Everyone who has some sense is a capitalist. Capitalism lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty, remember?
Which isn’t to say that sole proprietorships aren’t businesses.
And yet you imply that Jordaddy cares less about making and stewarding that money than Elizabeth Warren or Obama (who I assure you took years’ worth of serious financial opportunity costs to get their messages and agendas across) did. I’m cool with all of them making money.
ETA: Whoops, sorry, here’s another definition for you to ignore since you didn’t take Econ 101:
True, but Jordaddy’s views on capitalism and the amounts involved lead me to believe he’s availing himself of all ways to legally protect his earnings, as is his right.
Sorry Kathy, I’m too bored of the discussion on JP’s monetary interest. I think it’s clear at this point that he’s not doing it for the money. I’ll just quote these four points again and give you the last word since I don’t see any progress being made by insisting JP is doing it for the money;
JP has still not spent any money on luxury, but continues working 16 hours a day
JP has spent a lot of the money renting lecture halls, not luxuries
The argument “X has money therefore X is doing it for the money!” is a non-sequitur that you would never apply to Elizabeth Warren or your other heroes
If JP was doing it for the money, why is he releasing almost everything he does for FREE? Hundreds of lectures, almost his entire research in his entire academic career, even Maps of Meaning is fully online in PDF for free now
Money is a capitalist invention, so if using the commonly understood meaning of poverty (lack of money), capitalism created poverty. If we’re defining poverty as lacking sufficient shelter, clothing, and food - then no, people lifted millions out of poverty.
I’ll have a full refutation up of your more egregious claims (last 20 posts) later today. At work right now, providing actual help to people, not spreading conspiracy theory reactionary nonsense like Jordan.
I love you you didn’t address the defining characteristics of the alt-reich, because by those Jordan is alt-reich.
Lol.
Capitalism built a world where more food is wasted than is eaten, while 3.5 billion people don’t know where there next meal is coming from. Try again.
I actually have no idea regarding whether or not Warren or Obama are doing it for the money, nor have I implied they are. I’m just pointing out that the logic has to be followed through. If Jordan is doing it for the money because he makes 80K a month, then do you also believe Obama and Warren are doing it for the money? If “yes”, then there’s no point talking with someone who can’t understand what a non-sequitur is. If “no”, the argument refutes itself.
ETA: Whoops, sorry, here’s another definition for you to ignore:
And once again you fail to explain how I ignored such a definition. This is getting tiring, don’t ya think? Just admit pretty much all your arguments against JP have been drowned.
Lol.
Capitalism built a world where more food is wasted than is eaten, while 3.5 billion people don’t know where there next meal is coming from. Try again.
Dude, don’t waste my time with these silly arguments. 200 years ago, like 99% of the world was living in absolute poverty. Guess what the number is today. Capitalism. Even though the world population has more than doubled since 1960, food costs 20% less because of new technologies created by capitalism. In 2010, the % of the world living in 1.90 a day was12.4%, and just two years later in 2012, it’s 10.7%. Remember, each 1% of the world population = more than 70 million people. Capitalism is lifting 130,000 people out of poverty every day. Go figure.

It’s more accurate to say that money is a sine qua non for capitalism, which leaves your contention intact, especially when it comes to unregulated capitalism.
That sounds like it might be the corporate entity for his existing clinical consulting practise, but who knows for sure. If so he’d be better advised to create a new and separate entity for this business.
Could you please quote yourself again?
Capitalism existed before money existed. Capitalism only requires a free market. Something around 3000 BC, before money was invented, people traded assets (livestock, etc). That was also capitalism. The most corrupted version of capitalism is superior to the greatest socialist utopia. Capitalism lifts 130,000 people out of poverty EVERY DAY. By the time it took you to type that comment, capitalism has probably lifted a few people out of poverty. Capitalism is why the number of kids dying under 5 in Africa is dropped from 9 million annually to under 5 million annually even the Africa’s population is still exploding. Socialism, communism, marxism has NOTHING to put against capitalism. All attempts to install them have brought destruction and poverty to mankind. Next time you see a toilet in India, thank capitalism.
EDIT: How did this topic change from JP to capitalism?
Telling word choice, bruh.
As is your delusional vision of yourself stomping around vanquishing enemies, like this is some sort of fucking video game.
Yep, definitely not someone who took Econ 101. Or Introduction to Western Civ for that matter. The laughter continues.
Someone with better meme-fu than mine needs to find an appropriate expectation-vs-reality image for him.
