Tl;DR - the banana we know day’s are numbered as the Cavendish we all eat is dying out slowly from fungal infections.

yup. the curse of agricultural monoculture. all eggs --> one basket --> profit --> disaster!
I much prefer the little finger bananas I got in Mexico and at farmer’s markets in AZ.
Here, I have banana trees and this is our cultivar:
really sweet with floral notes like vanilla! and pretty, too! just look at them!
edit to add: they really are blue, then ripen to yellow.
