Kamala Harris and Mike Pence face off in sole VP debate

Now! Now!! Lava get it straight, Boyo. Copulation, is a pleasure and the fundamental orifice,useful. Hardly an accurate description of Pallid Pence!!

Nailed it.

Same goes for other folks (Texas, lookin’ at you) who have fracking underway on their property. Most of the American Rust Belt–Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan–plus some of the poorest southern states like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas blessed (?) with oil deposits, have active fracking going on. A big Red State swathe combining midwestern and states that consider themselves part of the American West also have active fracking… and California which has some moratoria in place.

More up-to-date but less easy to use:

“List of the Harmed” map is pretty eye-opening:

Do you think, beyond campaign dollars, Biden/Harris benefit in any meaningful way from vowing to protect fracking? I get that every vote counts, but does this issue bring them a sizeable enough number to even reiterate the vow during a debate? She dodged bigger issues than this.

It’s less that “every vote counts” than which votes they are. There are a lot of people in Western Pennsylvania for instance that depend on fracking for their livelihood.

Perhaps the way forward then is to spend some of the billions of dollars we throw around training and moving these people to other fields. Their plight can be proactively addressed without bending on values.

I mean, we live in a country where we nastily joke about people who get degrees in expertise that have very little chance of finding jobs. I value things like “18th Century French Literature” far more than “Fracking Technician” or whatever the hell their skill sets are called.

Maybe we are at the point now where training for jobs that rely on industries like fracking should be seen that way, and for much better reasons.

Re Popsicle’s head: How apropos, a"fly in the ointment" analogy ,BINGO!!

That would require them wanting to retrain or move to other fields. The folks who work the gas-fields here in PA love the fracking industry like it’s an abusive parent. Any hint that you’re going to try and take away daddy is met with outrage because short-term dependence on a job that pays better than most around here is much safer than long-term planning for something better, particularly when the offer for the long-term stuff is being made by someone who they see as being an out of touch elitist who spends too much time around “those” people. “Those” people being socialists and brown folks in case there was any doubt there. If Biden/Harris run on the promise of shifting PA’s gas frackers to other fields, they’d be just as likely to get the support of that population as if they run on the promise of eating children. The culture war has ensured that they can’t see anyone on the left as being able to offer a solution, so they’re willing to celebrate the crumbs the right will leave them. Benzene soaked crumbs.

Well, maybe we can fix the electoral process enough that the 21 Century equivalent of the whaling industry won’t have enough influence to matter politically. After that, if they don’t want retraining they can scrape by however they want.

“A Democratic victory would not change the world, but it would at least slow the berserk white-trash momentum of the bombs-and-Jesus crowd. Those people have had their way long enough. Not even the Book of Revelation threatens a plague of vengeful yahoos.” Hunter S Thompson, Generation of Swine, Showdown in the Pig Palace, p.18, 1986

<anti-pedant pedant hat>

Words can have multiple, closely related shades of meaning. It’s common practice to use context to determine which meaning is intended.

</anti-pedant pedant hat>

Hell, in M-W these two shades of meaning are even given in the same definition:

I’m waiting for the poo-throwing portion of the program, where he completely loses, drop his pants on stage and starts throwing crap at the audience.

So the highlight was a fly landing on Pence’s head and he didn’t even notice.

Flies like poo and dead things. Go figure

People are somewhat forgetting that the fly landed on his head when he started to spew a massive load of bullshit about implicit police bias and treatment of minority communities

Rod Steiger’s character was supposed to be a good man, wasn’t he? So, I disagree.

Wow. ROFL.

I mean, why not just say:

“I went to the grocery store yesterday.”

“Yes, but did you threaten to overrule him?”

“I was entitled to go to the store yesterday. I have that right.”

“But you aren’t answering the question, did you threaten to overrule him?”

“It’s dealing with the relevant point, which is I was entitled to go to the store yesterday.”

That interview makes me envious. We need moderators like that.
