Official Portrait - King Charles In Carbonite
This was my first thought when the portrait was released.
Official Portrait - King Charles In Carbonite
I emailed this to friends as soon as I saw the news story, w/the subject line, “Rather Night Gallery-esque innit.”
Great show; it’s missed.
Oh, I spotted that right away.
It’s the best part of the whole “threw up my Angel Delight on the canvas again” picture.
You know what they say about assumptions.
The Monarch Butterfly is far more beautiful, not to mention genuinely crucial to our well-being, unlike monarchies.
Only marginally on topic;
My BF and I have started breeding some for his farm:
Cross posting this to Mutant horticulture.
Absolutely agreed.
I do like the portrait, funnily enough.
I can’t see the blood-red others have mooted, just a whole sea of pink.
It would be rather nice if our monarch (blecch) turned out to be a fan of pink.
Or perhaps, as us “real men from the eighties” TM would say - “Salmon”.
That’s the nature of all art; it is subjective.
My cousin collected monarch caterpillars in her yard, brought them inside, and put them in aquariums. She fed and watched over them, and released them when they hatched out of their cocoons.
Mom and I did it with a couple caterpillars, and it was a great experience.
Please plant milkweed, everyone! and take care of the wild milkweed volunteers who show up in your yards!
So just for the record, the color is apparently intended to be red, though of course not actually blood. It’s supposed to represent the red dragon of Wales.
Wait… but he’s not the Prince of Wales anymore… that’s William?
True, but it was commissioned back in 2020. His uniform is one of the Welsh guards too.
Ah! That makes sense then!
Could the red dragon of Wales and the white dragon of the Saxons have had a baby?
Huh.
