I don’t know if it’s changed recently but the UK’s law on pocket knives is that it has to have a folding blade with an edge less than three inches.
You can carry other knives (you might need a stanley knife for work, for instance) if they’re in a bag.

Switchblades stink. A too-small grip mated to a blade too long for, say, opening cartons w/o damage. They’re good as a letter opener or cutting tags off new garments.
In High School (c. '80) I carried inherited antique multiblades because of their sturdiness and unexpected benefit of just being damned handy to have at odd moments of MacGyverism.
Now, there’s a generation of kids unfamiliar with mumbletypeg.
