I found this interesting:

The people of China deserve better than the communist regime that’s been forced on them. North Korea, it’s the same.”
Nothing of what this guy says is wrong. He is framing “Russian authoritarianism” by associating it with the nominally existing “Chinese and North Korean communism” but he never says they are the same. This is the rhetoric of someone who knows that Putin isn’t a communist but feels it is convenient to pretend otherwise and of someone who feels he is cleverer than his audience. He’s one of the grifters, not one of the true believers.

You have to be a true believer to become an effective grifter, but at the same time, you have to know on some level that it’s bullshit to grift (and not be grifted).
