Yes, and, college doesn’t always get included in talks about safety nets but they did a bang up job on that, too. I can’t express the fury I felt in college when the old white male boomers would chuckle when hearing how much a semester at college cost. “When I went, the semester cost the same as the books, about $250, hehe.” Yeah, thanks for that.

So apparently Putin challenged Biden to a debate shortly after Biden gave an honest question to a reporter who asked if Putin is “a killer.”
Obviously, debates between rival heads of state aren’t actually a thing and Biden isn’t stupid enough to take the bait. But that hasn’t stopped Trumpists from salivating over the idea of Putin putting Biden in his place.
I wonder if it’s strange for these people to go back and watch 80s movies when all Real American Heroes™ like Rocky Balboa and Maverick and Teenage Patrick Swayze knew that the Ruskies were the Bad Guys.
I have a young nephew who calmly asked after a “a Russia is bad” conversation “ What has Russia done to you to make you hate them?”

I explained what’s going on in the failed state of Russia and the shitty things that go along with that yet the needle didn’t move. If if doesn’t affect me why should I care attitude continued. We’re talking about a 15 yr old boy.

With my kids I try to frame it as why I dislike Putin himself rather than why I dislike Russia.
Plenty to work with there: he murders political opponents and journalists, he put bounties on the lives of American troops, and he’s spent years trying to sow discord in the United States and fuck around with our elections—ultimately making the difference that put Trump in office whether Trump has the self-awareness to recognize that fact or not (he doesn’t).
