They found out others are paying more, and since the news keeps reporting a shortage of workers, they are worried about being competitive:
Walmart announced last month an average hourly wage of more than $17.50. Amazon said in September that starting pay for warehouse and delivery workers will be more than $19 an hour. And Target invested $300 million in hourly wage increases last year.
The company said the dividend payment in March will mark the 144th straight quarter it has paid a cash dividend. In 2022, the company paid out $7.79 billion in dividends to its shareholders, and spent $6.70 billion on share repurchases.
The stock has lost 13.3% over the past 12 months
At least Home Depot isn’t on this list of corporations that barely pay taxes (if at all).

Oh, I was on a 2-hour Teams meeting this morning in which this was brought up as a negative for the economy and something that we should be worried about.
Other times, I have patiently brought out the Ford example (because Ford was pro-Nazi and pro-White Supremacy, so it goes down more easily with financial people) that if you pay your workers a proper wage, they’ll go out and spend it on your products. But this meeting felt much more Fox-closing-ranks than usual, so I kept my mouth shut.
