There’s no better way to prove you’re not belligerent than by assaulting someone.
The fix is simple: fire the current director of the secret service, and all the people who report up to him, all the way down through the ranks of agents and janitors and file clerks. Hire someone trustworthy to replace them with people who understand that their fate will be the same if they act unprofessionally in any capacity, on or off duty, whether they’re in the US or anywhere else in the world, drunk or sober. And make supervisors responsible for the behavior of their reports.
Simple. And desperately needed now.
I don’t think the threat of being fired is enough to discourage such people from engaging in that behavior. As for the threat of being prosecuted, well, now we’re talking.
Ok. We have now reached the point in the cyberpunk future where corporations and governments are basically interchangeable.
