I’ve been hearing from experts that the increased funding that Congress is throwing at the Secret Service won’t really be able to make any difference, at least in the short term, because it takes a lot of time to recruit, vet and train quality agents. The fact that they had an agent of this quality assigned as part of Harris’ protective detail indicates that their selection process was already pretty effin’ bad, so rushing to increase the number of agents could go pretty poorly.
My late BIL was a Secret Service agent after a long history in the military. He was a supervisor in a past president’s permanent protective detail. He was often seconded to the UN events like are happening in New York this week and had some harsh things to say about some of his fellow agents.
He was always discreet when flying (carried his weapon on board and had to be escorted to his seat in advance) but some other agents would loudly announce themselves as Secret Service not-so-secretly to the gate staff, much to his disgust. He worked his ass off on those assignments and didn’t spend much time with the other agents socially.
I don’t know how practical it would be, but that entire agency really needs to be gutted and rebuilt. They’ve had multiple scandals involving agent behavior over the past 20 years or so, plus multiple security failures.
This still hasn’t been confirmed and is doubtful anyway, so how does this keep getting reported as factual news?
If you’ve got evidence otherwise, that isn’t conspiracy theories about squibs or the fact he used to show up on the WWE, then post it. Other wise, it IS the official report that he WAS nicked in the attempt.
There really isn’t a reason to doubt the official story at this point.
