Yes. As absurdist and dunderheaded at we see his antics, his core conservative christian supporters see it differently. The Atlantic has a nice article on how they see it, and if you go to right wing sites like the gateway pundit, (visit at your own risk, I will not link there) the adulation of his action is disturbing.
