afaik low-noise velcro exists - don’t find any credible source, though.

But I found this small piece of velcro usage history:

It is very common on kids shoes. Also any clean styled motorcycle boot is gonna have velcro. Oh so much velcro in bike gear.

That may be my new winner. It’s still fast, it lays right, and it’s crazy secure. It can get a little twisted while tying, but that’s easy to fix. It’s oddly asymmetrical, but that’s what the cuff of your pants is for.

I like it a lot.
