The only surprise is that he grew a temporary backbone. Usually when a GOP president* who insulted him or his family asks McCain to do something he rolls over like a good doggie.
I just watched a slightly longer clip and McConnell looks to be grinning and then just deflates and slumps away. Priceless, just priceless.
Maybe he’s doing it “at long last” because he can sense the end and hopes his vote can get him closer to Jebus.
Especially when at least one of those women was politically threatened (the wisdom of levelling a threat at the director of your own appropriations committee notwithstanding), and another had a colleague insinuate that he wanted to kill her (trust us, that “if you were a man” bullshit is just bullshit anyone who pulls that line will commit violence against a woman all that line is is a sign of contempt). Yet, they still held firm.
McCain had nothing to lose, only a chance to gain (“see, I really am a maverick”). Collins and Murkowski did their jobs and represented their constituents. But as usual, the man gets all the credit.
Dead men walking tell strange tales.
This guy?
Interestingly, a lot of men voted against it. And yet, none of them are being challenged to a duel. What a piece of work, that guy.
Possibly so that every Republican, save Collins and Murkowski, could say that they voted for some version of repeal. Heller, for example, voted for the skinny repeal well after McCain voted against it, and would not have been given the opportunity had the procedural vote failed.
Not too surprising. He basically just found out that he’s terminally ill, so people should have been prepared for the fact that he might not have had any fucks left to give.
Macabre, yet apt, I like you!
ha ha–that’s what I was wondering. I didn’t even hear his name. I would think it would be like court: you can’t nod or shake your head–you have to speak something for the record.
I don’t know how to link this to that “All the Likes” thread but I’m giving you eleventy thousand in my head.
If by “single-handedly” you mean “he belatedly joined the two female Republican Senators who were steadfastly against this terrible bill all along.”
I have no problem giving him credit where it’s due. But giving him all the credit here is absurd.
Triple-handedly?
Exactly, I figured that was the sound one hears on good porn clips.
Odds are good he knew it wouldn’t pass (missed by 7 votes, right) and it was an opportunity to show a vote for the party when it wouldn’t mean anything
One of them should take this bully up on his offer, and laugh heartily as this tiny handed POS weasels his way out of the very thing he himself suggested.
I’ve got my money on “Farentohold simultaneously craps and pisses himself when taken up on his offer to go outside and risk mortal harm”.
For some reason I never heard the rule about “only one reconciliation bill per topic per year” rule explained before now. If this was indeed McCain’s strategy all along then respect.
Yeah, take it with a wee grain of salt, given that it’s from a random Reddit poster, but if true, then McCain really did have a clever scheme in mind.
