Yep, the original is Animal Hamlet and the direct-to-video sequel is Romeo & Juliet (with lions). Personally I’m waiting for Disney to make one based on Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus just because it would be so awesome to watch the protagonist have to chew off his own paw or trick his blood adversary into eating her own cubs.

I find the end of Watership Down to be similarly eye-opening, right around the time when General Woundwort declares ā€œDogs aren’t dangerous.ā€

Then again, the whole thing is pretty goddamned grim, for being about fluffy woodland critters.
