I knew I’d heard this song before - I own it.

There was a set of CDs issued back in 1995 called “The Beatles Anthology 1”, which was issued in a number of volumes. This was included on Volume 1, which cataloged a lot of the pre-Beatles and early Beatles work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthology_1

Sounds kind of like if Alan Lomax had recorded Hank Williams.
