Sorry, I just find the new look cluttered. Now it’s even harder to tell the ads from the stories. I wonder if the web designer could code it so that the advertisers aren’t able to completely copy the style of the stories? And if they can, would they? Personally I am kinda bummed that Boing Boing allows ads that purposely attempt to look like stories. Is this layout better for anyone? Or is it just change for the sake of change?

I’ve tried to get used to the new look and I can’t see any logic behind it except to try to confuse readers about what are ads and what is content. Looks like a mess. The “we’re going back to our zine roots” argument doesn’t really cut it when some of the “featured” content is Game of Thrones recaps. Doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to what is featured and what is in the feed. As for having a link to an “old style” look, that’s kind of like your girlfriend telling you she’s going to start dating other guys, but don’t worry, it won’t change your relationship. Clearly if the focus is on the new look, the link to the old look just seems like a way mute complaints until that link is finally cut too.
Hate to say it, but all I can think of is: Jump the Shark.

Oh man, thank you. I was trying to figure out how to see the feed as usual. This kinda helps. The new looks is confusing and cluttered. I can’t figure out what I’ve seen or not, what’s ads and what’s the usual posts. It’s terrible. They should revert.

Thank the hosts. I just shared the info. Also, apparently there are also two RSS feeds now, but I don’t recall the URLs for those. Look around in the comments on the new design. Loads of previous discussion on it.

While I appreciate that there’s a “wayback” look, I don’t think that vitiates criticism. Also, on many sites that have gone under controversial revision, but offered an alternative to those who don’t cotton to the new look, often that alternative is removed after a period of time. I’d hate to see that happen. For now though, my bookmark is going to page/1.

I don’t hate the way it looks but I can’t seem to deal it very well. It’s hard for me to see the story, and hard for me to find something I want to read again or link somewhere.
Honestly, I’ve stopped using the front page at all and now am either coming in mostly through the forums or through a link on facebook or twitter.
I tend to open the front page, feel overwhelmed, and then click something that makes it go away.
EDIT: just realized from a comment I missed until now that there is a link to use the older format. OH THANK HEAVENS!
Some of our brains just can’t that kind of pattern to noise ratio.

Yeah, I think there’s a good enough reason to allow people to complain. In my case it isn’t that I think it’s ugly. I mean it’s a perfectly nice wall of noise. If I were mainly looking at pictures for the sake of the pictures, it would work well.
I just honestly get a bit overwhelmed and confused with the new layout and can’t seem to use it unless I know exactly which story I want so that I can use CTRL F to find it.
Otherwise, scanning that much text while trying to ignore images gives me a literal headache. I figure I’ll get used to it at some point and develop eye movement patterns that don’t cause pain.

The new look is horrible. All design is no design. Can’t see any logic to it and fiind it cumbersome and awkward to use. Improve it, or go back to the old format or watch me flee.

It’s confusing and I don’t use the new look. What makes me shake my head is that the /page/1 workaround is worse than the old version.
Don’t get your hopes high for a rollback. Past discussions have shown that the BB crew sees this more as a self promotion platform and we readers are only slightly above nuisance to them. Remember when this board was introduced? The condescending tone by Beschizza told me everything I needed to know …

Was I doing that? Because i think there is a strawman ‘vitiating criticism’ that you’ve planted directly in front of me… for some reason. Probably accidental.
I’d be curious to know what percentage use this as their starting point. It’s probably low, as it isn’t readily advertised.
However if that number is significant and/or the numbers dip for site visits overall, I’d like to think someone would be rational enough to acknowledge the new lay out failed and changes it.

I recommend a well worded private letter to rob, and please don’t waste the communities time with these personal insults towards the hosts. The exit door is also open if it’s so unbearable for you. If you can’t control your mouth, please control your feet. It’s Life 101.
Have you ever considered that change for the sake of bothering everyone who can’t tolerate it into leaving might just be the point? Or at least the sort of bug that you don’t bother fixing?

I’ve seen a lot of threads kicking around the annoyance, the disappointment, the lack of enjoyment from the new look, but I’m wondering if there are people out there who really love it. Not people who don’t care one way or the other, but really think it is the bees knees and are really happy with the look.
Basically there’s a lot of negative threads, is there anyone truly delighted by what they consider a new and wonderful thing and have been utterly silent on the matter?

Falcor consolidated the new threads into this existing one, whose title is of course ironic.
Rest assured that we’re reading and working on the promised ongoing changes that will a) improve the new design and b) make it even worse.

Had you said what about it was cumbersome. How it might be improved. What you want in a site… well, those can be responded to constructively. What you did was degrade and threaten. Who does that ever work with???
