It’s not about the replacement, but the appeals - if Willis appeals, the case will be delayed beyond Nov (though an appeal is seen as unlikely); if Trump’s team appeals (which they will), it could cause a delay, depending how the judge sets things up (the appeal could theoretically be delayed until after the trial). Plus, the state legislature and Republicans in congress are using this bullshit as an excuse to find ways of stopping the case entirely and/or removing Willis, and they’re going to be tying her up with subpoenas. Trump’s lawyers have pretty effectively used this bullshit irrelevancy in their favor to throw a bunch of wrenches into the trial.
Why would she?
So… you’re just speculating about hypothetical scenarios, then?
Perhaps you may want to rethink this comment then, which you phrased as if it were already a foregone conclusion:
Why would she appeal. He gave her an out that will keep the case on track… That makes no sense. She made it crystal clear during her testimony that she saw this (rightfully) as a distraction meant to derail the case. She will do what she can to keep it on track, and if that means ditching Wade, then so be it.
She’s not playing some partisan game here. This is a serious woman who has a serious belief in holding people accountable for their criminal actions. Unlike Trumps people, she’s not playing a game, but is working on behalf of the good people of Fulton co and of my state to HOLD A FASCIST ACCOUNTABLE FOR TRYING TO OVERTURN AN ELECTION.
It’s very much a win for Trump because his team took a non-issue, turned into a case, and even though it’s become clear that no actual impropriety occurred, the judge decided that the mere appearance of it is enough to force changes to the prosecution, which opens the door for more Republican bullshit and delay tactics. That mere fact that Trump’s team was able to get it this far was the win for them - they successfully created a mountain out of something that was less than a molehill. That it’s now established that Willis did nothing wrong doesn’t matter.
She almost certainly won’t - but Trump’s team will. To be clear, I’m not putting any blame for this on Willis - this bullshit is entirely of Trump’s lawyers making. But they’ve still managed to inflict it on her and this case.
Yeah, but unfortunately she’s now ensnared in the game they’re playing. The judge pointed out that the conflict imagined by Trump’s lawyers didn’t hold any water- that Willis was actually running a much smaller, more focused prosecution than she could have, for example, but still demanded that someone be removed from the team. He left room for the MAGAts to keep playing their games.
It’s just generally the problem we have with US politics, post-Trump: when you have only one side that’s serious, they still end up getting tripped up in the games the un-serious side insists on playing.
I’m just saying: every time Trump’s (and his minions’) bullshit gets seriously entertained, it’s a win for him. Not a major win necessarily, and certainly not a final victory of any sort, thank goodness, but it advances his interests.
From your lips to God’s ears…
Yeah, repeatedly; I heard you, loud and clear, and I don’t agree with you.
Your initial phrasing was defeatist a/f, and I’m simply not here for it.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound defeatist - I’m pissed as fuck that this bullshit got this far.
Which the judge can reject. It also isn’t what you said…
It’s not a game. Stop letting them dictate terms. It’s not helpful.
“Who cares” is because ostensibly non-Trumpist media coverage is zeroing in on and magnifying the parts of the judge’s statements criticizing Willis. CNN talking heads as well as their rolling chyron have been huffing and puffing not about the fact that Willis is allowed to continue, but that the judge’s critiques are “extremely damaging” to her, “casting a cloud over the case,” and “something no District Attorney would want on their record.” They’re making such a thing of it that you’d swear you were listening to Fox.
My unschooled opinion is that for 24/7 news a positive outcome of any kind is not “grabby” enough to keep pulses racing and eyeballs glued to the screen. It’s always about the Sturm und Drang regardless of the relative importance of individual aspects of an issue. In this way it’s not unlike the preposterous “horse race” to see whether Biden and Trump would become their party’s nominees. “It’s down to the wire tonight, folks!” No, it isn’t. Everyone knew months ago what the outcome would be but they all pretended they didn’t.
News (i.e. entertainment) this may be but journalism it ain’t.
But unfortunately this will delay the trial until after the election
The format of doing this as a RICO case already made that ship sail long ago. Her schedule never held the possibility of getting this to court before the election.
One can debate the merits of that approach, but the fact is that the timetable has not changed in any relevant way, as even in the fastest case it was going to go on long after November.
Which the judge can reject. It also isn’t what you said…
And since this bullshirt was dealt with pre-trial, it’s not grounds for appeal, if I understand it correctly. So they would have to make up some other bullshit that’s less likely to stick at the appellate level.

If they want higher ratings than the Super Bowl, try T**** being perp-walked in Georgia, then NYC, then DC, then Florida. 24/7 coverage from helicopters watching his police transport between jurisdictions like OJ’s white Bronco, previews of his accommodations in prisons from GA to NY to Leavenworth. Enough with the appetizer, CNN, let’s get to the entrees!
It was a pretty bold gambit on the defense — let’s try to impugn the lead prosecutor that was assigned because they were (checks notes) not qualified enough for the job? The defense wanted a better prosecution? It almost worked too, and it would have been a catastrophic unforced error on the prosecution it did.
Thank goodness the effort blew up, but ultimately the Trump team got what they wanted by wasting several months on this circus making it all the more likely that this trial won’t happen this year. This legal strategy of flooding the end zone with bullshit to delay as much as possible is really the only game Trump and his lawyers know how to play, and sadly it’s proven very effective.
This paragraph is extremely well said Shuck!
