TYWKIWDBI has a post today about a history book from the '60’s that looks interesting and informative, but one small detail that really struck home for me was the title: “The European Discovery of America”.
Like so many other things that have changed in my lifetime, with people now absolutely convinced that ‘things were always this way’, it wasn’t that long ago that it was perfectly possible to learn in a U.S. high school history class that America was a place that existed before Europeans found it.

There is an American propaganda/training short film “Target for Tonight”. It depicts German interrogators piecing clues together from “trivial bits” said by downed bomber crews. The info allows them to figure out where the Americans will be and blast the hell out of the impending missions.
The story of the founder of the Fuggerei is fascinating.
