Magical History Tour

TYWKIWDBI has a post today about a history book from the '60’s that looks interesting and informative, but one small detail that really struck home for me was the title: “The European Discovery of America”.

Like so many other things that have changed in my lifetime, with people now absolutely convinced that ‘things were always this way’, it wasn’t that long ago that it was perfectly possible to learn in a U.S. high school history class that America was a place that existed before Europeans found it.

But now we’ve got a vocal and violent minority having temper tantrums about Critical Race Theory.

There is an American propaganda/training short film “Target for Tonight”. It depicts German interrogators piecing clues together from “trivial bits” said by downed bomber crews. The info allows them to figure out where the Americans will be and blast the hell out of the impending missions.

The end is the message “just don’t talk to them”

As my daughter would say: “Queen!”

The story of the founder of the Fuggerei is fascinating.

Maybe the first real capitalist. Most of his money and influence was acquired by loaning people money. He financed armies, bribed popes, paid for royal weddings, and bought the election of the Holy Roman Emperor.

I’d always read that Musa I was the richest person ever.

But it’s so hard to compare. We’re working hard on handing over the world to more useless parasitic billionaires than ever before
