Considering how much mileage my 2yo and 5yo got out of word play with “canteloupe” last week, this comment is going to significantly change life in my house.

Somewhat related to the whole Narawntapu / Asbestos Range theme:

Bettongs were previously known as rat kangaroos, but ecologists these days tend to avoid that name, as they felt it was harming conservation efforts.

There’s also a similar critter called a Potoroo.

I made this a few years back for one of our temporary venues. It needs a lot of touch-up.

When life gives you lemons…

Limoncello!

I’ll let you know in a month whether it was a good idea.

Now…what the hell do I do with all these lemons?

What are you doing, trying to strip paint?

Don’t worry, it’ll be cut before consumption, though I have known people who drank everclear.

So what you’re saying is…that’s Your Neighbor Potoroo?

(btw as predicted, my girls went absolutely nuts for the kangaroo variants! we’ve stripped youtube clean of it’s pademelon offerings…)

I’ve been making a couple of cutting boards for my cousin:

Radiata Pine core, Tasmanian Oak on the edges.

These boards look amazing. The difference in colors reminds me of black limba wood.
With that large plank in the middle, won’t there be problems with cracking or warping due to shrinkage?

Hopefully not.

The wood was completely dried before it was jointed. The different timbers glued together should help it resist warpage; as they won’t be all trying to warp in exactly the same direction or at the same rate, they act to stiffen each other. The glue joint itself is as strong or stronger than the wood.

It’s now been well oiled and it isn’t designed to stand up to heavy dishwasher style abuse. Avoid soaking it in water more than necessary, don’t store it in direct sunlight and replenish the oil every few years and it should hopefully never warp.

Just some experiments with epoxy resin and metallic pigments:

Birdhouse time again. These are kits for the local boy scouts. The beer is one of my homebrew beers salvaged from the Christmas stout disaster. Tastes pretty good, and didnt affect the straightness of my drilling too much.

Also made a ramp for the poor doggo. He had a stroke or something a few months back, seemed to recover, but relapsed a few weeks ago.

Been working on a loop antenna amplifier. Surprised I got it work so well. Can’t hear many intercontinental signals since I’m indoors but I can hear as far south as Guatemala when a ham from there is beaming my way. It’s a surprise how many utility stations are still online (lots of encoded stuff from NATO and the like you can’t hope to crack but still fun to see).
