I had minor chemical burn from it once, and can confirm this, the skin becomes white like paper.

As it frequently amuses me to bounce back and forth between AfterEffects and barnyard carpentry, I’ve been tempted to do a branding mashup to make Ryobi Creative Suite t-shirts that of course could never be legally sold.

And if that idea that I’ll probably never bother with ever needed a spokesperson (spoiler: it won’t), it would absolutely have to be @Wanderfound.

We bought a second-hand standalone mini freezer that stank to high heaven of cigarette smoke. We packed it with newspapers and changed them twice a day for a week or so and the smell vanished. I’m not sure where you get a cheap stack of newsprint these days, however…

More fun with DEMs and imagery:

I think I need to learn how to make these:

Incidentally, I recently discovered a show that should appeal to makers:

The vibe is Antiques Roadshow rather than Forged in Fire, and they show a wide variety of interesting precision craftwork.

It’s a fun show, but I wish they spent 5x time on the actual work and 0.5x time on the “human ‘interest’”.

yes, you do need to make these.
fwiw, years ago I knew a pretty good luthier – he even worked in the Gibson custom shop for a bit – and he told me that the process starts with tapping the planks of wood; the good ones resonate specially. to his ear, anyway.
the guy in the video explains how he tunes each key, but the wood itself will make a better instrument, if you know how to pick it.

we have a show like that over here, too. American Restoration is the uninspired title, our very successful show Pawn Stars featured the restoration shop for the pawn shop’s restoration needs, and a spin-off show was created for it.
the “reality” of the shop staff is not only obviously scripted, but incredibly formulaic. I went along with it at first, but now I have to watch it with the sound off; I can intuit exactly what everyone is saying at this point. lots of cool projects, though.

There are actually local wood suppliers who specialise in wood for instruments:

Large rosehip fruits at my parents garden:

We planted the shrub this year and it already has first fruits. This kind of fruit rose shrub grows up to 3 meters tall and yields 5-7 tonnes of fruits per hectare.

I remember that my Woody Woodpecker children’s chewable vitamins featured that they contained rose hips prominently, but I never understood what they are or why that was good. there are probably 30 rose bushes around my building but none of them have these hips on them.

That’s surprising. Here in Poland nearly all wild species of roses have fruits. Some, like rosa canina (dog rose), have small fruits, some have large ones. The one in our garden is of rosa villosa (apple rose) species and had lots of huge fruits. The fruits are edible and can be also dried and then used to brew a delicious tea. We also have wild rosa canina.

That reminds me, there must be a bottle of rose hip wine I brought back from a trip to Bacharach a couple of years ago around somewhere.

Oh, and of course that makes a hip-hopper a Hagebuttenhüpfer.

Now I want to make such wine
Maybe rose hip, black currant and grapes…

3 reasons for that: The roses are probably cultivars bred for repeat blooming and repeat bloomers tend to develop smaller hips. The roses are probably deadheaded, removal of spent blooms, throughout spring and summer to encourage more blooming. So no hips. And finally, if pruned to close to winter, the hips don’t have time to fully develop before the cold arrives.

Those are some gorgeous hips! :heartpulse: I wish I had more room for roses. I only have 5. I’ve never had fresh rose hips.

After a few instances of failing to notice front-door visitors while I was pottering around the back of the property, I decided to buy a doorbell.

Then I realised that it was bloody stupid to spend money on electronic crap when I am perfectly capable of making a nice loud doorknocker for myself.

So:

And I also made myself a mandril so I can have a go at making wooden rings.
