My first thought: we need a functioning mental healthcare system in this country.
Fortunately, that sadness is pushed aside by my second thought. After she peels out, the next car just casually rolls up to the window (“I’m not sure what’s going on here, I just want my Egg McMuffin and I’ll be on my way.”)
for sure, others should have been more helpful breaking it up
It all happens pretty fast though. Its like in an accident you spend a few seconds doing something counterproductive, and wonder why you did that later.
The tall black guy behind the victim clearly reacted to the immediate stimulus. He would have had to let go of his co-worker to go around the counter earlier, and it took a while for some strategy to come in to the situation.
I ride a bicycle to work and I encounter motorists like this every few weeks. Its probably about one person in 1000 who will snap and get violent for any reason at all.
Several of her coworkers ushered her out of the way to both keep her safe and calm her down. They have her back.
The manager went over to the rage maggot and calmed him down without physical intimidation or a 10 man beatdown. Scary violent drunks can be scary. That was good management. This also shows he has her back.
Nobody pulled a hidden knife or gun, or dirty needle.
No patrons were injured or put at needless risk. The manager did not let his employee go through this alone.
Nobody denied that the lady had a right to defend herself and her coworkers will back her up.
It isn’t as satisfying as the dirtbag in the dojo story, and i feel for both employees who got attacked, but this was a good way of handling this. Every minute this moron is in that restaraunt is another minute that something bad could happen.
Throw the mugger your wallet, it’s not worth your life. Throw this guy an order of fries and ask him to leave, it’s not worth it to figure out if he’s hiding a weapon.
Notice the manager tried to restrain HER not HIM.
In other related stories she puts her success down to boxing lessons. Martial arts or self defense training of some sort is good for boys and darned near vital for girls.
That idiot got a tasty dose of reality and that woman’s juice just got elevated to god status in her neighborhood for generations to come. I’m curious though, why does the story call him a “white” man. Was it to make it easier to identify him in the video? Probably not because he was the only peson who’s “shit was coverd” so decicevely and justly. Maybe it was some other reason that the melatonin content of his skin had relevance to but I cant quite pit my finger on it.
I’ll spare you my initial snarky response about the privilege-blind Libertarian Kool Aid you are obviously drinking by the barrelful to give you an actual answer. Identifying him as such places the incident in the context of an America where many white people have been increasingly emboldened to let their racist freak flags fly when faced with a PoC who doesn’t immediately accede to their demands.
If you don’t think race played a role in this man feeling like he had the power to throttle a fast-food employee (and send a second one to the hospital with abdominal injuries) to get a straw for his drink, then I’d say you’re drinking another sort of self delusion.
What’s the manager supposed to do? Detain the aggressor, get depositions, file police reports? That’s the police. He’s just pacifying the guy until the muscle arrives. He did the absolute correct thing. If you want instant justice, you’re the same type of person who admires a lynch mob.
Asking a question about why the person’s race was mentioned is “libertarian koolade drinking”? What an intersting angle. I will say, I appreciate that you did not automatically attack me personally this time instead of speaking about the content, no wait, you did it, you just said you would not but did anyway. As far as you comment after the non-snak snark, did you hear him spout something racial? I must have missed it, or if a white looking person does something bad to a “non white” person then it is automatically racist and emblematic of the woes of whites in america? You would not be prejudiced against an entire race because of the actions of a few people that happen to be of that race, are you?
No, that’s par for the course with your comments in general. This one was more about privilege blindness, which has a strong correlation with capital-L Libertarianism.
In any case, in answer to your question I pointed out a reason why Rob might have identified him as being white. If you want to pretend that the current regime hasn’t emboldened a lot of whites* to be more open and violent about their bigotry, I can’t do much about it.
