Man faces fines of $500 a day for front yard zombie nativity scene

Egad!!

Though, are similar non-zombie-related nativity scenes also being held to the requirement? I imagine that’s the issue he’s bringing light to here

As I said further along in the thread:

I can’t speak for his township specifically, but I think in general, a lot of outdoor nativity scenes that people put up are of the “buy a bunch of plastic pieces from Walmart” type, so even a bigger one likely wouldn’t involve any actual construction out of individual pieces of wood, the way that this guy’s did.

Churches usually use more substantial wooden manger sheds than the average homeowner. Do they have permits for them?

I love watching people argue beyond the third stadard deviation.

Fist story is about a father dismatling a concrete shed and killing his daughter.
Second story was about demolishing a shed and an elderly man died.
That video is of two people building a two story ‘shed’
Second video is a guy whose shed FLOOR failed.

Sounds more like a health and safety issue from amateur demolition of old stone buildings than anything to do with 2x4s in wooded shed construction. Plus maybe some wishful thinking in what is and is not a shed.

You have not made your point well. an it is nearly concern driving trollies (think of the children!).

I am all in favor of local code, but nuisance zoning is not a thing I support as much. The nuisance of semipermanent unoccupied religious displays is between my and my neighbor, it is not for the community to fight that for me unless it is loud or causing another real safety issue.

That part where I say you were maaaaybe concern driving trollies? That was the rubicon. You definitely just passed it.

You’re gonna have to do the paperwork and pay the bribes to get the volcano laser base. That’s just the way of the world, man. At least til you’ve got the volcano laser base anyways. Once you can nuke Rupert Murdoch from orbit, you’re pretty much good to go with whatever you like.

Here’s an idea, lets compare it to another widely accepted religious structure in the building code:

Or, and this is the thing, cranes have a very recent history of falling over in my city:

Firefighters do die when people put in PVC cabling when the HCl fumes overwhelm them.

And I have seen someone electrocuted at a job site when a steelworker climbed a ladder, put their tools down and hit a 240 volt line for an air conditioner installation that an electrician hadn’t locked off before going to lunch. It was kind of a downer. Add the friend of mine who was paralyzed when their Genie lift fell over and yeah, I have become really safety conscious to prevent stupid fucking preventable accidents that happen when people don’t follow code.

your black and white thinking is your own.

You can change the topic away from local fines for personal religious expressions on private property, but I think I will bring it back there for now.

Or, the personal religious expression can follow all local applicable codes. Which has been my point from moment one.

One of them at least.

Just because shaddack and I got into a discussion about the importance of local codes that the rest of you could have skipped doesn’t take away the point.
