I’m pretty sure that only those for the last couple of years are “selfies”. The older ones are just “self portraits”.

Yea, that’s a great observation about this.
Mesmerizing. Must take a lot of determination too. And maybe some frustration about what surely felt like a fresh new experiment in 1998 has become kind of of a fad lately, with dedicated apps and all.
