I grew up with a very specific kind of pandering and they’re ruining my childhood by pandering to someone else.
cis het white men’s taste = normal, standard, classic
anyone else’s taste = pandering, political
Ahaha if only I still had a childhood left to ruin…
Of course- it’s the default, the norm. It’s so much the norm that even gender neutral means masculine of center.
Diversity means different kinds of white guys.
Daniel Craig should always be remembered as the trailblazer who opened the door for James Bonds who lack chest hair.
He’s a twofer.
Yes, this is on topic. Barely, but I say it counts.
I never even liked the old movies.
Truthfully, this was never a franchise which did much for me. Except for Moonraker. Because spaceships, but the rest of it is horrifically boring.
“The person who sends me a screenshot of the best manbaby fan reaction to this wins a chocolate fish,”
Do we really want to publicize randos being idiots any more than we already do? To what end? What purpose does this serve?
“Aw gee, we didn’t have enough reasons to hate each other today. Let’s fix that!”
Not sure that IJ4 did actually bomb. These figures seem to suggest that:

Doubt those figures are adjusted for relative value of the dollar over the time period though.
I believe it was more to do with Shia LaBeouf making a number of comments about the production and crew that were bad enough to end his relationship with the franchise.
The joke was both obvious and good… to me. So, yeah, as someguy says, need an /s tag these days, even for the really obvious ones.
Idris Elba might actually make me watch a bond movie for the first time in years. As I don’t really know this actress, she won’t have the same effect on me. Still, good on them to take a non-white, non-male lead for a change, it might do the (disproportionally large) manbaby part of James Bond lovers some good.

WonderMan still seeking actor as series is looking to break out of a predominantly female role.
I think it was a good idea that they try to turn the whole James Bond thing into a cinematic universe. It’s wild they didn’t actually try sooner since to be honest it really would be much better that way than just constantly retreading the same old stories. I can’t imagine James Bond not having backup when it came to say finding out about SPECTRE or that MI6 didn’t have any backups or any other operations happening. It just doesn’t seem plausible to me.
I’m hoping she is like Furiosa.
Look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, don’t look around my eyes, look into my eyes, you’re under.
There never was a fourth Indiana Jones film.
This is just a figment of your imagination.
There are only three Indiana Jones films.
Three, two, one… You’re back in the room.
I have to admit, Elba would have gotten me to watch too. I really like his “smart tough guy” vibe in other roles and think it would have played well with Bond. But, I’m really not a fan. I had a fan in the family so I watched them and honestly they’re pretty depressing to watch for a little girl. As an adult I kind of tried to like the newer ones but they’re just neither fun nor truly thrilling somehow. And I think that’s the problem I have with the intense fandoms that now exist around every single franchise. Fans are just going to blame the art for changing when usually it’s reality that’s moved on.
That was really cool, thanks
Agreed. I somewhat like the old sean connery movies. Their age makes it easier to somewhat overlook the misogyny, or at least see it as a product of it’s time.
Like if you look at old laurel&hardy films, which are rather crude in their depiction of women, but I can still enjoy them because of their age.
But the newer stuff is just inexcusably misogynistic. (Though I did like Daniel Craigh in the one recent bond movie I saw, I think it was Casino Royale)
That’s fair, bomb probably wasn’t the right word to use since that usually refers to box office. I meant more that it didn’t go over well with critics and viewers. Indy 4 made a ton of money for the same reason The Phantom Menace did. Phantom Menace gets panned but it has its fair share of fans, especially among kids who were first exposed to Star Wars through it. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say anything good about Crystal Skull.
