They ‘know’ they’re right, and anything that says otherwise is ‘fake news’. This is not a situation that can be changed with facts or logic. Besides, if they did, they’d have to admit they’re wrong, and nobody likes doing that.

Actually, I think it’s worse than that - they don’t care if they’re “right.” Correctness doesn’t even come into the issue - it’s whatever works as a short-term political strategy, they’ll adopt, no matter how wrong or destructive it may be. Facts don’t matter, morality doesn’t matter. In the short term this activity reinforces the cult mentality of their followers, so it’s good, regardless of what else it does.
