Ummm, knowing how we got to where we are is vital to figuring out how we go about fixing the parts that need fixing, as well as understanding the intricacies of the insectionality. Ignoring history is something that the fascists are pushing really hard. Let’s not join them.

Comparing current Republicans to ones a half century or more ago? Useful for showing how far they fell, just mentioning the comparison obscures the current problems more than helps, IMHO. Feels way more like “They were good, they can’t possibly be that bad”
So, you just decided to insert words into @knoxblox’s mouth, because reasons. That’s not what he meant and I suspect you know that. He’s very aware of the danger posed by the current crop of far right assholes running the GOP, as are many of us here. But it’s a statement of fact that it started out as the anti-slavery party, though.
But not like ignoring or distorting history is ever a problem, right?

Could not disagree more. Understanding where we/they were and how they got to where we/they are is key to knowing how to stop in happening again, and how to change where it is currently. Ignoring history is incredibly dangerous, and pretty much always a bad idea.
