I doubt having the place full of unmoderated hate is actually great for those numbers. It’s that this is what Musk wanted in the first place…Twitter to be somewhere that fascists can speak freely, unhindered by woke things like terms and conditions or laws outside the US. That’s supposed to help humanity, who he loves.

Since Musk has revealed himself to be incredibly right-wing, and is returning (and boosting) right-winger who got banished from Twitter, I think he does care.
More than that, it seems like Musk has given up on bringing back advertisers, so he may not care about them. There were some rumors inside Twitter about what “Twitter 2.0” potentially means (Musk probably doesn’t yet know), but most involved other revenue streams than ads.
