The point of stooping is to make it bleedingly obvious that their opinion is not only unacceptable but will receive straight-up abuse if expressed publicly. Some people will never change their mind and it’s those people who should be loudly and publicly ridiculed. You probably wont be able to change their opinion but you might be able to affect a neutral party reading the discussion, particularly if you make your point succinctly and well (as I feel Bashir did) and if you make it obvious to the neutral party that if they choose to use something as abhorrent as slavery as an irrelevant talking point in a scare campaign then they too will be the target of unbridled abuse.

Stooping does not disrespect your own character, it is a tool for coercion.

There is a difference between the concept and unencumbered definition of slave/slavery and the use of the word in reference to US slavery’s history. Shitmouth Palin (we need to get this trending BTW) was specifically comparing repaying the national debt to the treatment of slaves in America or by Americans.

No matter WHAT that’s an ignorant comparison as any hardship from having to repay national debt would never, ever, reach the level of abuse and sickening barbarism that was normal in the history of US slavery. This was the point that Bashir was making.

Where was Sarah Palin and the other GOP Retardlicans when Bush was flushing billions down the toilet over the war on terror? Don’t bash Bashir when all he was saying is: Don’t use slavery as a cheap tool in your argument. If your argument stands then it should do so without inclusion of references which belittle the awful reality of America’s history.

If public debt is a problem then why the fuck do you guys bicker about stuff like healthcare when you’re happily and bilaterally signing off on an idiotic amount of military spending every year?

Bashir might be self-serving narcissist but his target and tone are entirely appropriate here.

It’s been 20 (!?) years since I read it, but wasn’t that a scenario in Gravity’s Rainbow?

Much like “I’m not a racist but…” you can be assured what the “next part” will contain.

There’s a rather nasty bit of nazi coprophagia / coprophilia in that, yeah.

I’d like to say this woman should make her living doing x, y or z, but I can’t think of any profession to which she would not be an insult.
