One of the very few upsides of the GOP having a solid majority in the House is that they are marginally more likely to let the worst of their own get tossed to the wolves (even if they’re doing so for the wrong reasons).

Well!
First, Paxton [finally] got impeached.
Next, Pat Robertson [finally] croaked.
Then, Lord Dampnut [finally] got indicted by the Feds.
Now, this.
About time we got a streak of good news. I hope it continues.

I encourage the Rs to adopt a purity test a la the Inquisition or witch trials until only a few are left standing. Whittle down the R congress until it’s small enough to be drowned in a bathtub.

I see what you did there.

I wonder if Desantis replaces him if Gaetz is convicted. With the Trump indictments, there could be power shifts. Desantis might want someone more beholden to Desantis, less loyal to Trump in that seat, and McCarthy would be happy if Gaetz were in prison and not making his job harder.

Can we start referring to this scandal as Gaetzgate? Or Gaetzgaet?

Spoke too soon, it appears.
He has his loyal flunky overseeing this case, and we all remember what a disaster she was the first time:
Judge Aileen Cannon Can Absolutely Sink the Federal Prosecution of Trump

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Boris quit. So, yeah more good news.

I dunno; maybe a side order of gross miscarriage of justice for that judge? there’s a few different ways it can go, and I think the government is getting sick and tired of this clown show.

She already got her hand slapped by a very conservative appeals court for her earlier shitty pro-Trump ruling. I doubt she’ll try that again. She may have a lifetime appointment, but she’s on a pretty low rung of the ladder.

House members only get replaced by a special or general election: “When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.”

The Seventeenth Amendment does allow for governors to appoint someone to serve in a vacated Senate seat until an election can be called: “When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies: Provided, That the legislature of any State may empower the executive thereof to make temporary appointments until the people fill the vacancies by election as the legislature may direct.”

I suspect that the idea here isn’t to force Gaetz out (the GOP margin is too slim to risk that), but to publicize his weaknesses ahead of next year’s GOP primary.

Thanks!

Any reasonable person would, but I don’t know think her “reasonable person” skills were how she got the gig. Fingers crossed.

Sorry, I should have clarified. “Reasonable person” is a legal term of art that refers to using an objective standard instead of subjective. In other words, what she finds is reasonable is irrelevant.

Maybe lobbying from a certain online money transfer app had something to do with it

I would agree but they also have a habit of murdering a lot of people we like along the way.

Dear DOJ -
Just because you uncover a Gaetz/MTG sex tape doesn’t mean you have to release it.

Sincerely,
Everyone

This is why security clearances are all about if you can be blackmailed. Gaetz stepped out of line, and now he’s being blackmailed. This is like some Battlefield Earth crap. Being capable of blackmailed should have disqualified, and now he’s actually being blackmailed.

Don’t give porn parody producers any ideas. (Do they still exist?)
