When I knew Maya in college, she was in a band*, and she can really sing - which (ironically) is what makes this work so well.
*When I realized she was in SNL, I was confused because I just assumed she’d get famous as a musician, in fact.

Yeah, I was about to say other than her wonderful exaggeration for the comic effect, she actually sounded pretty amazing. The judge sure as hell can belt out a tune.

Near her death, in concert, she changed the end of “Lovin’ You”, “Maya, Maya, Maya” to “Maya, Maya, Ringo, Maya.” Ringo was her nickname for her son, Marc.
Cancer sucks.

Maya was in the band the Rentals. She sang backup and played keyboards.
