That’s a law that should be changed. And for much of the history of unions, they were illegal to join for everyone and were violently suppressed. 
But my point wasn’t about you, it was about putting pressure on management and that’s pretty much the best way people have come up with so far to put pressure on management to treat people like human beings rather than “resources”…
