“This chatacter was hispanic. Defend your point.”

Also, it isn’t a pinata, it is a Ferrari.

There are lots of Hispanics of Chinese descent all over Latin America - but they don’t walk around wearing Asian conical hats or Charlie Chan moustaches. That’s a racist Trumpian “China Virus” piñata, for sure.

Usually seeing a “Mexican” restaurant that doesn’t appear to have any people of Mexican descent in it is a warning sign in itself for me, but maybe that’s just the norm in Missouri.

So Taco Bell is right out?

Sometimes I forget that there are people who actually classify Taco Bell as “Mexican food” and the realization fills me with a deep and overwhelming sadness.

Taco Bell is to Mexican food as Papa John’s is to Italian food.

the restaurant took down its Facebook page in shame

They may have taken down their page, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say what they’re feeling right now is not shame. Maybe more like… what’s that word for when you’re a total asshole but you’re convinced you’re right and that the people calling you out for being an asshole are unfairly victimizing you?

Excuse me, it’s not a Mexican restaurant. It’s literally right there in the name

All fast food is “food”. Id agree Taco Bell is a “Food like Substance” that “Approximates Mexican food”.

And while I agree there is some great “Mexican” food run by real Mexicans - a lot of it is bastardized to American tastes. Just like “Chinese” food.

I’ve actually been to both Italy and Mexico, and agree that a lot of stuff in America is an approximation. Like in some cases you can’t get the same ingredients, and that makes a difference. O

There was this new pizza place that I it up that claimed to use actual bread from Italy. Well, the flour etc is from Italy. And made like in Italy. I ate A LOT of Margherita pizza in Italy - it was cheap and delicious. But while they imported the flour, they were using shredded mozzarella, not the slices of fresh mozzarella. At least the basil was fresh. But they half assed it and it wasn’t the same.

Oh, well then they are being very authentic.

Ironically it is Asian/Pacific Islander Month. PBS has a really good documentary they are running about the history of Asian Americans.

What a lame ass excuse for the bigotry; that drawing is clearly based on an Asian stereotype.

Lying assholes.

And all this time I thought conical hats, yellow skin, slanty eyes and Fu Manchu moustaches were part of Minstrel stereotypes!

decades ago, when i lived in MO, that may have been the case, but the last time i was there a few years ago there were plenty of mexican restaurants with plenty of people of mexican descent in them. this place is even evidently in the area i used to be familiar with. but i’ve never heard of it. still, MO has racists all over the damn place.

“Take everything the store, put it in a giant torilla and call it a burrito” is from Northern California

though you can get one almost anywhere

… except Southern California

It’s so clearly that, I’m confused by their response. Did they mean that the racist caricature was made by Hispanics, so it’s not racist? (Which…whoo boy.) Or, far less plausibly, that it’s supposed to be a sombreroed, bandito-mustached, yellow-faced Mexican? Not one of those interpretations is the defense they think it is.
