Michael Moore says Trump will use pandemic to cancel election

The problem is that everything the GOP accuse the other side of is actually projection about what they would do in their position. So this reminder actually makes me more afraid, not less

Again, the 2nd Amendment was never intended to be about the citizenry arming themselves against their own government.

If the Federal government has reached the point where the citizenry has to rise up against it in violent revolt then it doesn’t matter whether the Constitution grants those people the right to bear arms because the Constitution has clearly already failed.

If the Constitution has already failed, then there’s no reason for a liberal to not be prepared. The police will not be protecting people. We may very well see Blackwater/Xe/Academi mercenaries doing similar things as in Hurricane Katrina. Plenty of martial law, and unhinged righties looking for their first lib ‘Zombie’. Except that if it comes to that, there won’t be a source of firearms and ammo unless they’re pried out of someone’s cold dead hands. And it won’t be the unarmed liberal doing the prying.

Why not be prepared, learn to shoot safely, use the 2nd amendment to protect the “security of a free State”, by defending some of the last people who believe in it. Ourselves. Geez, we could even make the democratic party FAR more appealing to centrists who feel that the 2nd is important - if we weren’t all irrationally weird about it, and positive social change would be way easier, and we would head this kind of shit off at the pass.

I see what you’re saying, and I might give you that the intentions were different, but we’re also living in a world where the intentions of the 1st amendment probably weren’t to give the East India Trading Company the ability to override the speech of citizens, and yet here we are.

We play with the hand we have. Why short ourselves cards?

Does Michael Moore want President Pelosi? Because that is how you’d get President Pelosi.

This is an unlikely scenario. The more likely scenario is that Trump wins re-election in a fatally flawed electoral contest. He may be a nascent (some would say present) dictator, but all dictators seek manipulations to ease their transits. The Republican Party (for that is the real nemesis) is going to attempt to stop the vote where it can - prevent postal votes where “it is reasonable that a citizen could have voted in person” and flood the polling places with armed fucknuts with respiratory illnesses. By and large, the only people foolish enough to vote are going to be other young white imbeciles with no regard for their personal safety and the elderly who will be in an “at risk” population considered free to vote by private courier (given that the Republicans will likely have succeeded in killing the USPS by then).

Basic safeguards that 70%+ of the populace approve of are “irrational?” Meanwhile, “anybody and everybody should be able to get any kind of firearm they want“ is supposed to be the rational position?

“I cos-played at the local protest and all I got was this lousy respiratory infection!”

Wait, do ammosexuals get more turned on by the size of the bullet or the size of the muzzle?
“It’s a 12-gauge with a full choke!”
:sweat_drops:
I’m surprised there aren’t more handy-wipes in gun stores.

If there is no election, then there are no Representatives and there is no Speaker of the House

Topics like this are just an invitation to make up scary stories

You’re buying into the propaganda that people who vote for Democratic/Progressive candidates are against guns, don’t own guns, and don’t know how to shoot guns.

It’s simply not true.

It’s like the current press secretary announcing to the assembled press that the reason they’re asking about the safety of opening up religious buildings and services again is because they don’t respect religion…at which point a reporter had to cut in to point out that he very much is religious and goes to church, as do many of his colleagues.

The us vs them template is toxic…rise above it as much as you can.

The whole thing reverts to “no goverment at all”?
That is bizarre.

Imma gonna stop you right there.

People have been risking their lives for the right to vote in this country since day one, particularly women and people of color. Even if the Republicans succeed in making voting a life-threatening proposition that doesn’t mean the people who show up at the polls are “foolish.”

the system is not designed for “not having an election”

Some might say it wasn’t “designed” for anything - but that gerrymandering thing sure is a sweet hack!

Narrator: It isn’t.

that’d presume every state decides to or is forced to cancel their election. there simply is no way of that happening.

now if the red states want to cancel their elections and ceed their house and senate seats to the wind, i say let them and good riddance. it’s past time to… ummm… clean house

Now you’re contradicting the premise of the creative-writing exercise

Trump will cancel the election. Michael Moore said so. We can’t just say “no” and go on with real life

well, heck. there goes my whole day.

i dunno, i do wonder: is it better to conceive of the possibility and talk about it, or does talking about it make it possibile?

arguably, trump won by simply getting everyone to talk about him all of the time. it made it seem possible for him to win, which gave people a reason to vote for him. ( see also: joe biden. ) does making canceling the election a talking point give it that same sort of energy?
