The image used for “Bargaining” is not appropriate to Trump. Maybe the one for anger could be used in that panel again?
“People are saying” that Pompeo wants to run for higher office.
I’m going to enjoy his run for President, where he falls flat on his face.
The guy has the charisma of a ham sandwich.
Both of these are congruent with that awful man’s superpower: monetizing his failures.
I suspect most of his followers are not the best at reading fine print and details.
I love Masha Gessen’s work.
They had a lifetime dose of autocracy and lawlessness before managing to get out of Russia.
I love Masha’s critical thinking skills. So glad they are here now.
I have this argument with my Canadian family all the time. I try to convey the seriousness of the situation down here with these things people are saying (like Trump calling for violence at polling places) and I get back, “oh, they don’t really MEAN that stuff”.
Even if they don’t “mean it”, the effect is the same- idiots pick up guns and start shooting. Kyle Rittenhouse doesn’t just happen. He was radicalized by the president and went and shot people.
Ah, but does he have the indictability of a ham sandwich?
The bottom line is that it’s hard to sell newspapers in a fascist dictatorship.
The nazis didn’t have a problem with it. Fascist dictatorships were actually heavily dependent on various forms of mass media to help with social control.
Now, there is no journalistic independence in a dictatorship, for sure, but plenty of newspapers and other forms of mass media.
I feel like that’s what’s really behind this sudden come-to-Jesus moment of accountability meaning something to the news media: they’re not worried about losing their access anymore. It’s obvious to everyone but Trump that he lost and will be out of power soon, and it’s in their best interests to make it look like they’re on board with the new administration.
For many perhaps, but some still seem bound to ride that train straight to hell - Graham, Pompeo, Barr, all the people bringing suits in court, and most problematic of all, McConnell, who is apparently bound and determine to do all he can to make the USA a one party state. He’s actually a much bigger problem, as he’s not an incompetent goon, but an incredibly competent one.
[ETA] But DERP we’re talking about journalists… some of them, too. Although even some fox news goons seem to be turning on the “he really won” narrative.
Oh, I absolutely don’t disagree with you on that point. There’s definitely a bunch of folks on the right who have a vested interest in keeping the grift and the power grab going, and I think all but the most truly orange-blinded are doing it will full knowledge that they’re undermining the system for their own benefit. I just think journalists in the US are also not as independent as they like to think, and consciously or not, they know which side their bread is about to be buttered on.
Yep! Fucking this. It goes back to corporate control of journalism, which needs to go.
Every other nation’s leadership now knows we have a complete buffoon Secretary of State. That’s gonna be for another two months. Our national security now rests in the fact that no one has any idea what our President will pursue from one minute to the next.
