Mississippi Senator jokes about enjoying a public hanging

She’s saying if her supporter invited her to a public hanging, she’d be in the front row. It’s clear to everyone who she’d like to watch hang in Mississippi during a race between her and a black opponent. But because she left it implied, the Alt-Reich will smirkingly rationalize it with special pleading. Hence the term dog whistle.

This is fascism’s central sociopathic strategy. Brazen racism and dehumanization of any who oppose them, followed by playing the victim when they’re criticized for it.

Mississipi in 1861: “Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin.”

Mississippi today: It’s about states rights and southern heritage! You’re just trying to erase history and spread SJW propaganda!

One particular right, to enslave their fellow Americans for profit.

Right. My point is that, in 1861, the state of Mississippi was extremely clear that slavery was the only issue that led them to secede. Now, when people point that out, they claim that they’re being victimized by the left.

Not to speak for @GulliverFoyle, but I suspect their point is basically that they agree with you.

Entirely. :slightly_smiling_face:

No idea either. Perhaps signaling strong support for capital punishment???

People confused by the statement likely hail from someplace without a strong history of lynching. Because without that, the premise is shocking and overwhelms the rest. No New Englander–even a racist–would come up with that “compliment”.

But she said that. In Mississippi. While facing a runoff against a black opponent.

:musical_note: Shit it’s only been sixty years
Since they hung blacks and burned em’
And that was so cool
Day rail passes, picnic baskets
Even gave kids the day off school
To go see a lynchin’
Have a picnic
It’s fun to watch the little monkeys die
Then people act a little dysfunctional
You wanna pretend that you don’t know why :musical_note:

Have you guys seen the presser where she was confronted about this statement? “We put out a statement yesterday. We stand by that statement.” Repeated over and over. She knows she done fucked up, and has taken the approach of, refusing to answer direct questions and hoping the press loses interest. Not a good look for her.
