Trump worse than GWB? GWB is responsible for hundreds of thousands of civilians dying after starting a war based on lies. Trump hasn’t done something like this … yet. But I guess your perspective is a domestic one - what’s a few brown peoples lives for an american herrenmensch eh?
Did you just call @snigs “an american herrenmensch”?
I only have one vote. I’m not a journalist or influencer. Not using the WHO test was ridiculous. Did he think Obama approved it? Why should that matter though?
It’s the World Health Organization.
No, no, no. It’s Marsupial Law!
American exceptionalism. They thought that they could develop a better test all by themselves.
Related: according to reports, activities are massively rising to spread misinformation, and fingers point to Russia. Target: make the pandemic worse in the so-called west. Divide USA and EU. Worsen the situation between China and the US, and Iran.
I do take this with a grain of salt, as usual, but FFS, while my main worry is how to deal with the direct effects of the pandemic, the political effects are clearly afoot. This will shake up the world.
And for another record: I am already worried about terrorists and opportunistic criminals who want to spread panic.
Naw… they just do what they always do, take it or buy it from someone else.
Part of the problem is that he doesn’t need to work to fix it at all. Medical personnel, scientists and logistics folks are doing that. But if they have any degree of success, he will claim the credit and folks will apparently believe him.
He has not measurable changed American imperial policies, no, and he’s made the already terrible policies on our southern border far worse.
The Pew poll indicates that only 27 percent of Fox viewers consider coronavirus to be “a major threat” to public health in the US. The irony is that about half of the network’s viewers are 50 or older and therefore more at risk of having serious health complications from Covid-19 (the disease caused by coronavirus) in relation to younger people.
Pew also found that 66 percent of Fox viewers are “very confident” in Trump’s handling of coronavirus, which is more than twice as high as the confidence level in Trump among all US adults (24 percent).
Did Ipsos find just the right questions to ask?
Look, Trump’s working with what he’s got. He wants the military to kill as many civilians as they can (and has shaped policies to do that, as well as actively encouraged war crimes), but he’s also at the point where it’s clear these forever wars are hugely unpopular, so he can’t start another one (but he’d surely like to, just for the popularity bump). He wants credit for withdrawing troops, but he’s also actively trying to break as much as possible while leaving.
Meanwhile, he’s working on getting an American deathtoll of hundreds of thousands of dead civilians by continually mishandling the whole coronavirus outbreak, so he may yet catch up.
And our state Governors. Apparently those guys are doing everything that the federal government would be doing if it wasn’t a total Keystone Cops situation. Most of your TV news just ran Andrew Cuomo’s press conference nationally. Cause like him or not the guy’s got a base level of competency that’s a fuck ton more reassuring than the god damn Hamburgler in the white house.
And just like Teflon it poisons everything with it’s toxic chemicals.
I called for Bush and Cheney to leave the WH in orange jump suits, and the total deaths he’s responsible for is probably a million. But sure, go ahead and Godwin if that’s your idea of a good time.
In terms of leadership? Sure. Yes, Bush was a bad president, should be in the bottom five or so. However, Trump, as a reaction to 9/11, would have nuked someone. He’s talked about using nukes, fondly. Dollars to donuts. In a pandemic he’s made it into a US vs. them, can’t imagine what he’d do if we were actually attacked. My point Trump in that situation would have been even worse.
That’s why I didn’t compare Trump to someone I liked, I did it to Bush because he was bad. See how that works?
ETA: Also, while Bush wasn’t much of a reader, I’m speculating that Trump wouldn’t have read past the title of Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US either. OBL was a Saudi, and Trump thinks they’re the good ones, as they pay cash, so not interesting.
ETA:
Good call:
I sort of think he was calling Bush that, but it was still a dick comment, frankly.
That’s how it works in a dictatorship (and Trump wants to be a dictator). All successes are thanks to the leader’s genius, and all failures are caused by incompetents, defeatists, traitors, saboteurs, foreigners, etc. The leader cannot fail; he can only be failed by others.
Exhibit A:
Trump’s not handling it. Pence is. Trump takes no responsibility at all.
