If throwing tortillas is a common practice then you’ll have no problem coming up with videos of your team doing that versus predominately white teams, right?

Was it worth it? That four seconds of being a racist? they took your championship away and none of you can play varsity anything for the rest of highschool, also likley going to be subject to doxxing later in life if any of them want to run for office.

“In this instance, there is no doubt the act of throwing tortillas at a predominately Latino team is unacceptable and warrants sanctions,” the release states. “The path towards real change comes with the development of empathy for those who are on the receiving end of this type of degrading and demeaning behavior, no matter the proffered intent of that behavior.”

Throwing tortillas at losing opponents is your default means of celebrating? Yeah, you deserved the sanctions, you dipshits.

Some imbecile[s] thought this was a good idea?

No, that was allegedly somebody else’s default means of celebrating. They just tried to appropriate it as a fig leaf to excuse their inexcusable behavior.

So, not even something they did regularly? And they thought that would excuse the behavior? “No, we don’t normally do this, but these other guys do and we thought we’d make it our tradition… for the first time… facing off against a team composed of mostly hispanic kids… no, really, trust us…”

Cool, so how many of those kids are going to change schools so they can get back onto a Varsity team?

I would bet “being a racist” had a longer timeframe than 4 sec for many of them.

One of the things I see in a lot of the articles excusing the behavior as not racist, is pointing to celebrations or events where tortillas are tossed. These all (intentionally or not) miss the important context that in this case, they were being tossed at the losing team.

It is disingenuous to say that school graduates tossing tortillas at each other is equivalent to throwing them at a mostly Latino team that just lost a match.
